The 115th Annual General Meeting of the Sheffield Federation for School Sports was held at the Park Hotel, Sheffield on 19th November 2009. New appointments included Mr Uriah Rennie as the new President, Mr Chris Motley takes over as Chairman from Peter McLeod who has taken up the position of Honorary General Secretary. Mr Andy Davis is the new Vice-Chairman.
Association secretaries are reminded that the meeting passed unanimously an addition to Rule 9c which states that member associations must now be represented at one management committee meeting per school year as a minimum.

The awards presented were as follows:
ALDERMAN SEWELL AWARD for the Schools' Sports Personality for 2008-09 was presented to Nashiba Khan of Abbeydale Grange School. Nashiba is an oustanding sportswoman, highly proficient at a number of sports. Typical of her she has represented her school over the years at Badminton, Cricket, Netball, Rounders, Football and Basketball. However it is at Rounders that she experienced most success.
As captain of Abbeydale Grange U16 Girls Rounders team she led them to the semi final stage of the national finals. At those finals she won the 'Golden Bat' award (twice) for the highest individual scorer in the morning and the afternoon and more significantly came to the notice of the national selectors. Consequently Nashiba has been selected to play for England after a successful trial in September.
Nashiba also enjoys working with younger pupils and is an inspirational young leader. She is well known for her work within her local community and adults and children respond well to her enthusiasm and commitment to school sport. One of her PE teachers, Miss Kate Grapes, stated "Nashiba has always been willing to support the work of the PE department in school and is without doubt an asset to school sport. She is willing to turn her hand to anything and would not see a school sport team go short. She sets an exceptional example for other young Muslim girls; taking part in sport to a high standard whilst remaining respectful of her beliefs. We will all miss her but know that she will be a great asset to her chosen institute for further study."
ALDERMAN SEWELL AWARD NOMINEE Emily Green of Sheffield High School for Girls. Emily is a talented Trampolinist, Gymnast and Dancer. She has enjoyed much success bouncing for her school at local, regional and national level achieving, amongst others, 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the Yorkshire and North of England level as well a 2nd at the National finals three years in a row.
In gymnastics she helped the school team achieve 2nd place at the Yorkshire Schools Floor and Vault competition this year.
She has a natural talent for coaching. Already a UKCC Level 1 gymnastics coach she has been coaching and inspiring junior members of the school. Head of PE Ms L Jones states, "Emily is kind hearted and non judgemental in her approach to the younger girls. She finds pleasure in working with all children regardless of ability, particularly employing impressive interpersonal skills to use sport as a vehicle for teaching life skills and encouraging social development. Quite simply Emily is an outstanding individual, she is one of the best 'team' players I have ever had the pleasure of working with."
ALDERMAN SEWELL AWARD NOMINEE Jack Blencowe of All Saints RC School. This year Jack has excelled at both regional, zonal and National level giving him the best year of his sporting career. The season started with Jack winning the Regional Yorkshire Men's championships, winning by over 5 whole points. Subsequently he then took the Yorkshire Schools Under 19's title and went onto clinch the North of England Schools Under 19 Championships. The National schools championships were a close call but Jack finished in a respectable 3rd place.
Jack then spent the next two months preparing for the British Trampoline Championships held at the prestigious Birmingham National Indoor Arena. His target was to final in a top 8 position. In the preliminary rounds Jack performed two consistent solid perfromances securing him a final place in 8th. The following day Jack stepped up to the challenge performing a stunning final routine. The end result saw Jack scooping the bronze medal and making history for Sheffield. This is the highest ranking at a British Championship for someone from Sheffield.
ALDERMAN SEWELL AWARD NOMINEE Amy Webster of Abbeydale Grange School. She is a very talented all round sportswoman who has represented her school at Rounders, Badminton, Netball, Football and Athletics. She has also represented Sheffield and South Yorkshire Schools in the Discus and Shot.
She was a valuable member of the schools U16 Girls Rounders team that reached the National semi-finals this year. Her abilities were recognised at those finals when she was invited to attend England trials in September.
Amy is a swimmer 'by trade' and has represented City of Sheffield Swim Club and the region regularly in long and short meets. She is currently North East 1500m open water Champion for her age group but has also produced some of the fastest 200m Individual Medley times for her age group this year.
In addition to her sporting prowess Amy has demonstrated a natural aptitude for working with and coaching younger students. Her PE Teacher Miss Kate Grapes said, "Coupled with Amy's sporting achievements is her innate ability to communicate effectively with staff and students alike. Her polite and cheerful manner alongside her infectious sense of humour and fun make her endearing to those with whom she works and plays. She is a popular memberof all teams and is often a first choice selection for staff and other players."
CHAIRMAN'S AWARD presented to Mr Rob Creasey for his services to school sport through his work in Athletics.
DAVE AIZLEWOOD MEMORIAL TROPHY awarded to the primary school that gains the most points at the Sheffield Schools Primary Athletics Championships. Winners Greenhill Primary. This is the sixth time they have won this award in the last ten years which is a terrific record.
HAROLD WHITHAM MEMORIAL AWARD for the most outstanding performance by a Sheffield athlete at the English Schools Athletics Association National Championships went to Alexander Kiwomya of Notre Dame School. Alex won the Junior Boys 200m event for his South Yorkshire Schools team.
THE PAULINE FIDLER MEMORIAL AWARD chosen by Sheffield Schools Football Association and presented in recognition of service to schools football went to Lewis Carr of Tapton and Bradfield Schools.
THE FRANK SCHOLFIELD MEMORIAL AWARD given to a Sheffield pupil who made an outstanding contribution to his teams' efforts during the Sheffield Schools Cricket Association finals. This year the award has gone to James Martin of Ecclesfield School not only for his captaincy skills in leading his team to a victory on the day but also for a magnificent individual score of 98 not out when his team batted.

SPECIAL AWARD to Silverdale School U16 & U19 Basketball Teams. National champions.
SPECIAL AWARD to Natalie and Nicola Chan-Lam of Sheffield High School for Girls for their outstanding performances at Badminton at national and international level.
SPECIAL AWARD to Lauren Potter of Sheffield High School for Girls for her outstanding achievements in Netball at national and international level.
SPECIAL AWARD to Philip Jackson of King Ecgbert School for his outstanding performances in Trampolining at national and international level.
SPECIAL AWARD to Jessica Ennis for her outstanding achievement at the World Athletics Championships.
SPECIAL AWARD to Ian and Paddy Rodgers for long and meritorious service to Sheffield Federation for School Sports.
