Abbeydale Grange, Sheffield High School for Girls, Birley and Meadowhead take Rounders League titles.

14/7/08

The League Finals for the Sheffield School's Rounders Association were held at Abbeydale Grange on Wednesday 9th July 2008. The finals were attended by eight teams from six different schools. Meadowhead proved very successful in their pools this year winning in each age group.

The U12 final involved just two teams; Meadowhead, who had previously won their pool and King Ecgberts, who went through as the highest scoring runners up following the withdrawal of Westfield. Notre Dame also withdrew from the final but had previously won their pool.

In the U14 section the competition was between Abbeydale Grange, Birley and Meadowhead, all three of whom won their league pools.

The U16s comprised of Abbeydale Grange, Sheffield High School and again, Meadowhead.

The poor weather held off until half way through the 3-way finals and into the 2nd innings of the U12 competition. Consequently it was only the U12 competition that was played in full and so for the U14 and u16 competitions the winner had to be decided based on average rounders scored per innings.

And the results were.....

The U12 title was taken (by just one rounder!) by Meadowhead in a very close match.

Rain seemed to affect the U14 competition the most but the winners with 4.5 average rounders scored were Birley Community College who also won the U14 girl's tournament. Meadowhead and Abbeydale Grange came joint runners up each scoring an average of 3 rounders per innings.

Following a fine display of sportsmanship from the girls at Sheffield High School, the U16 title was decided as a three-way tie between the representative schools, Abbeydale Grange, Sheffield High School and Meadowhead.

Well done to all the teams who made it to the final and congratulations to the winning teams!
