Abbeydale Grange U16 Girls Rounders Team 2009
The National U16 girls Rounders finals were in Corby on 4 July. Abbeydale Grange School (ten students, 5 from Y10 and 5 from Y11) represented South Yorkshire having come runners up at the county round. Winners of the county round, Aston 9Rotherham) were also there.
Abbeydale played 3 pool matches; lost the first against Bosworth 6.5-7, drew the 2nd against Aston 5-5 and won the last 8-4. We qualified for quarter finals as highest scoring runner up out of all the pools and went on the play and beat Nottingham 9-4. We then met Aston (again!?!?!?) in the semis and lost by 2 rounders.
Nashiba Khan, Natasha Hawkins and Amy Webster stood out when batting with Nashiba winning the prize for highest scoring individual player in the morning and then in the afternoon as well. Fielding was stronger than batting with again, Amy Webster and Nashiba Khan working extremely well together on and around 2nd base to stop scoring. Halima Khan played a consistently good back stop, Nuria Real bowled well and Sian Rowney took some astounding catches.
The girls completed the day with a presentation from the Mayor of Corby and plenty of Michael Jackson requests (for Meena) were played by Corby radio station who turned up to cover the event.
