Sheffield U14's v's Rotherham U14's Sat 25th April 2009

The lads went head to head with Rotherham to decide who would progress to the league semi final play offs. Sheffield, requiring only a point to see them qualify, opted for a 4-5-1 formation to disrupt play to the pacy Rotherham forwards and to utilise the services of their own pacy and tricky wingers. End to end fluent football was being enjoyed by spectators in a very exciting game before Sheffield took the lead before the half after a ball was played out of the formidable Sheffield midfield to Niall Smith who took his chance well. Both sides continued to play open and attractive football after the break, which produced chances at either end. Rotherham then got themselves back in the game with 20 minutes to go to create a tense match. At 1-1, Sheffield remained composed defensively and continued to remain a threat through the middle and on the wings. Their second breakthrough came 10 minutes to go after the ball was fed in to a tireless Will Warhurst who cut inside to fire Sheffield back in to the lead. Final score 2-1. Manager's comment: a superb performance and deserved victory against a good Rotherham side who are not afraid of going forward themselves but at times were pressurised by the attacking threats presented by Sheffield. Well done lads!
