Sheffield U11s vs Leeds U11s
Sheffield U11s 1 Leeds 0 (West Yorkshire Cup)
Sheffield came out on top 1-0 in a highly competitive and deserved West Yorkshire Cup encounter, with the match going ahead following hard overnight frost. Sheffield had the majority of the possession in the 1st half with Francis netting a delightful strike into the top left corner of the net after 10 minutes. Leeds struggled to gain much initiative and were lucky not to go 2-0 down following an missed tap- in opportunity from 6-yards created from a Sheffield corner kick. Sheffield went into half time with a deserved lead. Leeds made several changes at half time in an attempt to flood the midfield to help grasp possession, which worked well for them as Sheffield had to defend with a "backs to the wall" attitude for most of the second half and rely on the counter attack for the remainder of their chances. The Sheffield defence stood firm & withheld all Leeds could throw at them, without a real clear goal scoring opportunity being made. Special mentions for Bingley in goal who had probably his best performance in a Sheffield No1 shirt and again 2 weeks on the trot MOM Taylor who played at full back for the first half and seamlessly moved into midfield, starting the majority of Sheffields counter attacks through his "eye of a needle" passing and through balls and his general tackling, desire and tenacity . Another all round impressive performance, resolute defending, without the normal passing-game which Sheffield have recently displayed, but yet again another clean sheet, well done, keep it up boys!
