Race 1 - High Hazels
Here we go again!! A fantastic start to the 2024/25 cross country season at High Hazels on Saturday. Well done to everyone involved and welcome to the new schools that have joined for the first time. Here are the results for Race 1
Many thanks Claire
Relay results 2024
Well we survived it!!! I honestly didn't think the weather could be worse than last year, my paper work didn't get as wet, but my goodness those hail storms were vicious!
Well done to everyone who turned up and ran, it was a great morning and lovely to share it with the secondary schools.
The full results are below, the organisers have always made it clear that mixed teams can not place, for various reasons! I just love how the children step up and run 2 legs for their school or will mix with other schools, to complete a team. I've put all the teams down in the order they finished in the funnel and then placed them, you can then see where some of the mixed teams fared against the others. Hope it all makes sense.
Have a wonderful summer and see you all next season
Claire
Relay information
Please find attached some general information regarding the upcoming relay race at Castle Dyke on Saturday 23rd March. Please note it is an earlier start time than normal due to the secondary schools racing too.
Birkdale school will be providing bacon butties, Westways school a tuck shop and a charity cake stall will also be up and running. You will require CASH to make purchases on the day.
See you all there.
City Championships results
Well, what a wonderful day it was for the City Champs race at Graves Park. As the frost melted the mud bath commenced! but that did not stop the wonderful primary children completing a fantastic course. Some fabulous racing and in particular the Y5/6 girls race, where you will see in the results, it was incredibly close. A huge thank you to all the schools who sent over marshalls and finish line assistants and of course to the team setting up and putting away the course.
Here are the results and we look forward to seeing everyone at the relays on Saturday 23rd March at Birkdale Schools sports ground.
Many thanks Claire
Race 7 and overall league positions
Well that's it everyone!! The final league race is complete and the overall results for the 23/24 season are below. Congratulations to everyone who took part in any of the races this year and to the children who will be collecting medals and certificates for their fantastic results and dedication to cross country running. It was wonderful to see how the team's improved over the season and I know there were still newcomers to cross country at Longley park, running for the first time in race 7. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we hope to see them complete a full season next year and of course race in the City Championships.
City Champs
Another reminder that on Saturday 24th February (sorry for the typo below) it will be the City Championships. This race is run by all the schools involved and we require volunteers from all the schools to come forward and support the race. We need marshals around the course, people to run the finish line and help writing down the top ten finishers. This can be a different person for each race, so if you can give your time to help SFSS and all the amazing children for one or all the races, please let your school know and then please be available on the day.
Many thanks Claire
Race 6 - Brunswick
Another cold morning at Brunswick Primary school but that didn't stop hundreds of amazing children turning out, giving it their all and achieving some fantastic results. As we move into the last league race of the season, race 7 - Longley Park on Saturday 3rd February, please may I remind everyone that the total points, so far, are for all 6 races. The final results are the best 5 results out of a possible 7 races, so the overall points can change significantly.
City Champs

Race 5 - Parkwood Springs
Wow! What a turn out on such a cold but beautiful morning. Well done to all who ran straight off the back of Norfolk park, the results are in after race 5 and look amazing. Please can I remind everyone that we take the best 5 races out of the possible 7, so if you miss a race or it doesn't go your way on the day, it's fine, we have that covered!! Please bear this in mind when checking the results, things will change when I deduct the lowest 2 results after race 7.
Enjoy the break and we will see everyone at Brunswick School on Saturday 20th January 2024

SFSS Relays 2023
So that's it! The relays see the end of another season and what an exciting day it was. Slightly windy and a bit of rain up at Castle Dyke, well blowing a gale and rain coming in sideways really, but that didn't stop 129 teams turning out and completing the course. Well done to every child that got to the start line. Schools had drafted in children that have never run before to make up complete teams and schools linked up to form teams, which is all the fun of the relays. Attached are the top 10 results from each race. Enjoy the break everyone and see you next season.
Primary School Relays
Castle Dike Playing Fields, Ringinglow Road
25 March 2023
General Information about the Relays
There will be four races, in this order: Y3/4 Girls, Y3/4 Boys, Y5/6 Girls, Y5/6 Boys.
The first race will start at 9.30am
4 runners make up a team. Each runner runs a lap which will be slightly shorter than full League distance.
A school’s outgoing runner will be set off as their incoming runner crosses the finish line and touches the hand of their next runner.
Registration opens at 8.45am in the pavilion. All numbers and pins will be provided. Numbers must be pinned to the FRONT of the vest or t shirt.
Each number also has a letter designation. The first runner has the ‘A’ number, the second runner the ‘B’ number, and so on. Runners will be called up in this way and MUST run in this order.
Incomplete school teams will be encouraged to ‘adopt’ a runner (or runners) from another school in order to make a complete team. This should enable all those turning up on the day to get a run, although mixed school teams cannot be awarded certificates.
There will be certificates for the top 3 teams in each race, awarded on the day, as well as a winners certificate for the winning school in each race.
Parking in the car park at Castle Dyke playing fields is for Birkdale staff, officials and school team managers ONLY. One car per school. There is no parking allowed on the lane leading to the pavilion. Please park sensibly on the streets and roadsides in the surrounding area.
City Championships 2023

Cross Country 2022/23
WE ARE OFF!!!!
What a great start to the primary cross country season, over 650 children competed in the first 4 races and what a great atmosphere it was. Thank you to all the organisers and parent helpers on the day and to all the schools who have submitted their results. A little info for everyone regarding the results. The results need to be in by 10pm on the Tuesday after each race. If the results are not submitted they will not show on the website and the school will not be awarded their points. The top ten children in each race are awarded points and we take their best 5 results over the 7 league races. Team results are based around a complete team of 4 runners. Every complete team of 4 will be awarded points and again the best 5 results out of 7 races will be their overall position at the end of the season. Anyone new to cross country, the Graves park race is a stand alone race, which is the City Championships. The relays are simply that! Teams of 4 runners, running in a replay. This is a fantastic, bonkers morning and also the end to the season, where the trophies are presented for both the league and the relay races.
If any school still hasn't made contact with Claire Sanderson (parent helper) who is overseeing the results for this year, please get in touch asap. Email Claire at:

Congratulations to Dobcroft for winning the other three age groups and congratulations to all of you who took part and ran for your school. Team trophies will be presented at the relay races.
Finally, a big thank you is due to all those who set out the courses, marshalled, managed the finish funnels, handed out finish place tickets, recorded names and processed the results, without whom none of this would have taken place.
